Bahrain and Belgium report their hospitals are successfully treating coronavirus patients with the anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine touted by President Trump as a possible breakthrough in the pandemic.

Dr. Deborah Birx, who serves as the White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator, said during a press conference on Wednesday that the media has “frightened the American people” with salacious reporting surrounding the coronavirus outbreak.

Birx’s remarks come after leftist talking heads like MSNBC’s Chris Hayes have claimed that the coronavirus could kill 1% of the U.S. population, which is over 3.2 million people.

The Food and Drug Administration will allow doctors across the country to begin using plasma donated by coronavirus survivors to treat patients who are critically ill with the virus under new emergency protocols approved Tuesday.

As the real state of affairs in China, now months into its coronavirus outbreak remains unknown, the country is trying to at least give the impression that things are fine and that it is genuinely interested in helping out the rest of the world. And in terms of faking the notion of helping the rest of the world, China can't even do that right.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO/AP) — Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz has issued an executive order directing Minnesotans to stay at home for two weeks in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic Wednesday afternoon. Walz made the announcement in a 2 p.m. address from his residence, during a daily update on the pandemic with state health officials. The stay at home order goes into effect Friday night at 11:59 p.m. and is scheduled to end on April 10th.

Walz also announced that the closure of bars, restaurants and other public accommodations will be extended to May 1, 2020.

"As U.S. state and local officials halt the economy and quarantine their communities over the Wuhan virus crisis, one would hope our leaders were making such major decisions based on well-sourced data and statistical analysis. That is not the case."

We will add a story in the comments that Hydroxychloroquinine has been known to be effective against beta-coronaviruses since 2005. We think it is time for the CDC to spend some money on clinical trials. They do that once in a while. And what better use of some CDC money?

We think this is an important story. We are not sure the Governor meant what he said. There are two ways to take this message. One is that he was referring to Angela Merkle's and Boris Johnson's assessment of a couple of weeks ago. Or, on the other hand, that he is going with a laissez-faire strategy, not do very much, let people become sick until the point of herd immunity which is in the 60% to 80% range.  Both Angela Merkel and Boris were roundly criticized by their countryman and woman as they understood what that meant. This is why Boris Johnson changed his tune. He was accused of not fighting this virus and waiting until it ran its course. You should also note that the South Koreans did not close much up but used testing to ferret out who was sick and the shops and restaurants remained open.

This is a telling story. This Doctor is worried about incidental travelers' re-kindling epidemic. We think they have very few travelers now so tracking them should not be a problem. We think that this is a propaganda set-up because they really have not gotten all of the problems solved and are going to have to start reporting new infections eventually.  So this set-up is who to blame for the next round. It is just our conjecture at this point but time will tell.
