We think this may be a good alternative.  However, there is a fly in the ointment from a legal standpoint.  If this vaccine is approved for COVID-19, that may hazard other Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for other vaccines being used under EUA.  We are not sure how this will turn out.  That would not make Pfizer nor Moderna very happy.  Please see the first comment for a link to the Clinical Trial.

“While it was so widely expected the announcement was merely a formality, just after 5pm on Friday the FDA Advisory Panel voted unanimously (22-0) to endorse the (one-shot, no mRNA) J&J vaccine, saying the benefits outweigh the risks, and recommended the agency grant emergency authorization, moving the nation's third vaccine one step closer to getting into Americans' arms.”

The is the advisory committee of the FDA.  FDA approval could come as early as tomorrow.

The Johnson and Johnson Advisory Committee (adcom) meets and possibly votes on Friday.  The New York Times suspicion is that it could be approved as early as Saturday.

It comes from the AGAPLESION Bethanien Havelgarten retirement home in Berlin-Spandau. There, within four weeks after the first vaccination with the BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine Comirnaty, eight of 31 seniors, who suffered from dementia but were in good physical condition according to their age before the vaccination, died. The first death occurred after only six days, and five other seniors died approximately 14 days after vaccination. The first symptoms of the disease had already appeared shortly after the vaccination.”

We are not anti-vaxers. However, we think the risks should be better known.

“New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and seven other Democratic governors are demanding additional coronavirus vaccine doses, even though their states have struggled to use doses from their current stockpiles.”

“The University of Queensland state vaccine that was to be manufactured at Australian biopharmaceutical company CSL’s Melbourne headquarters had proven safe and produced a “robust response” to COVID-19 during Phase One trials, researchers said in a statement.  But the researchers and the government had agreed not to proceed further because of the false positive HIV result due to a protein contained in the potential vaccine.”

A commonly heard presumption is that healthcare workers should be vaccinated first.  But what if the vaccines induce immediate or latent adverse reactions that sideline these first responders and frontline workers?  It could be a catastrophe.  And if for some reason the vaccines spread COVID-19 rather than quell it (there is such a thing as vaccine-induced infection), what a way to create an out-of-control pandemic.

It may be a little early to declare victory, but this is still good news.
